Wedding and family photographer, Northumberland and the Borders

Hello, I'm Holly

I live in Alnwick, ten minutes from the sea, and most of my working life happens between a kitchen table at eight in the morning and a dance floor at eleven at night.

I work alone. There's no second shooter, no assistant with a light on a pole, no one to boss anybody about. One quiet person with a camera, in the room for the whole day.

On a day off you'll find me on the beach between Alnmouth and Bamburgh with a flask, usually in weather other people are avoiding. The weddings are where to see what that turns into.

How I work on the day

In the kitchen

I arrive early and say hello to everyone, then I make myself useful or make myself scarce. I don't direct the morning. I watch it, and the pictures come from whatever is actually happening: a zip that won't close, a dog under the table, a card read twice.

A room full of wedding guests deep in conversation, seen from a doorway, nobody looking towards the camera

The ceremony

I stand where a guest would stand and I don't move much. No flash, no clatter, no leaning into the aisle. The pictures of your ceremony should look like it felt from the third row.

Outside

I don't line people up. If you want a picture of the two of you with your grandparents, of course, and it will take two minutes. But I'd rather walk you onto the sand for twenty minutes, in whatever the weather is doing, and let you talk to each other while I keep my distance.

The evening

I stay through the speeches and the first dance, and well into the part where the band is loud and the shoes have come off. Then I leave quietly.

I take around 25 weddings a year, because that is the number where I can do all of this properly for each one, and still have your gallery to you within six weeks.

What couples say about having me around

Eighty-seven couples have written something about their day and about what it was like having me in it. I'd rather you read them in their own words than in mine, so I don't quote them here.

Ask when you enquire and I'll send you all 87 reviews the same day, unedited, the ones about me as well as the ones about the pictures.

Better still, ask a couple I've photographed. I'm happy to put you in touch with one whose day was like the one you're planning. hello@example.com

Now you've met me, is your date free?

Three things and I'll look in the diary tonight. If it's free, I'll say so and we can talk properly.
