An empty beach at dawn, wet sand reflecting a thin band of light along a low horizon

Whole days, in order

Every wedding here runs from first light to the last dance, the way it happened. Nothing has been pulled forward for being prettier.

Three days

Real wedding stories across Northumberland and the Borders

October

A hilltop in the Borders

It was four degrees up there and blowing a hoolie. Everyone wore wellies to the barn and nobody minded.

A farmhouse and barn on a hilltop above a mist-filled valley, one small figure carrying a dress bag across the yard

First light

Muddy wellies and one pair of satin heels lined up by a farmhouse back door
A man in a white shirt and vest laughs while adjusting his tie in a hallway mirror.

The vows

Guests on hay bales turn to laugh during vows in a barn whose open doors look out on hills and sheep

Up the hill

A bride in wellies and a waxed jacket leads the wedding party up a windy hill, veil streaming behind
Two children chase each other through long grass beside a barn in golden light

The ceilidh

Dancers blur into streaks under festoon bulbs during a ceilidh in a dark barn

May

A village hall near Alnwick

The whole village seemed to have a job that day. I mostly stood in the kitchen doorway and let them get on with it.

Two people carry a three-tier cake across the lane towards a stone village hall strung with bunting

First light

A woman in an apron ices small cakes in a hall kitchen, flour on her arms and steam rising behind her
A friend with hairpins between her lips pins up a bride's hair beside a sash window

The vows

A couple laugh mid-vows in a village hall as daylight falls across the floor and a toddler wanders the aisle

Out on the lane

A gust takes confetti and blossom sideways over a couple on the lane outside a village hall
Two grandparents under a tartan blanket share a plate of food on a bench at the edge of a field

Evening

A boy in socks slides on his knees across a village hall dance floor under fairy lights while adults dance behind him

September

Bamburgh beach in the rain

It rained from breakfast to bedtime. They went out on the sand anyway, and those are the pictures they printed.

Two small figures share an umbrella far out on a rain-soaked beach, a castle grey on the headland behind

First light

A woman in a cream sweater holds a mug while looking out a rain-streaked window from inside a rustic cottage.
Umbrellas and a paper-wrapped bouquet piled on a hallway table beneath a child's yellow raincoat

The vows

Guests with rain-wet shoulders fill the pews of a small stone church while a girl turns round in her seat

Out in the weather

A bride, groom, and four bridesmaids in dresses and rain boots run across a wet beach in the rain.
A couple under one umbrella stand on mirror-wet sand, their reflection beneath them in the rain

Speeches

A father gives a speech by candlelight while the couple hide their faces laughing and rain runs down the dark windows

Small weddings and elopements on the coast

Eight people and a dog still make a whole day. I tell it the same way, just shorter.

March

Eight on the tideline at Alnmouth

Vows in the dunes, then everyone into the pub before the hair had a chance to dry.

The walk out

A bride and groom walk along a wet sandy beach accompanied by four guests and two small dogs under a cloudy sky.
A couple hold hands during a short ceremony in a dune hollow while the celebrant's papers flap in the wind
A couple and their guests raise pints at a low-beamed pub bar, hair still wet from the wind, a bouquet lying beside the beer mats

November

Just the two of them

Two witnesses, a short walk on the rocks and chips on the harbour wall. Three hours, start to finish.

The rocks

A couple walks along a rocky foreshore next to a grey sea under an overcast sky.
A couple sign the register at a small table while two witnesses' hands clap blurred at the edge of the frame
Fish and chips on paper on a stone harbour wall beside a wedding dress hem and bare feet, with the sea and a castle in the background.

Up to six hours from £1,450. Elopements from £850. Both come with the same online gallery within six weeks.
